Looking to celebrate your love in the snow during this most wonderful time of the year? In this post I’ll go over 5 tips for planning your Winter Wedding or Elopement to make it the most magical day possible!
I had the joy of participating in this Winter elopement styled shoot at Lake Easton. I teamed up with some of the best wedding vendors in Washington to create a Winter Wonderland elopement. Heather Carrilo and Sarah Jane dreamed up the vision and everyone involved helped bring it to life!

Planning Ahead
1. Dress Warm and Layer Up
If your winter wedding or elopement is taking place outside, you will definitely want to wear clothing that is warm and comfortable. Wearing leggings or long johns under your wedding outfits will help keep you layered without taking away from your attire.
You can also get creative by adding accessories to wear on top. Think of items like a white fur wrap, white gloves, or matching white jackets. You can also bring a blanket to cuddle under together which is sure to add the cutest cozy vibes.
Some other accessories I recommend couples bring to help keep warm are hand and feet warmers. These little guys will help keep your hands from looking icy blue in all your photos.
And you won’t want to forget to wear warm winter shoes or boots. You can find tons of stylish options to go with your outfits, but this is an item you definitely don’t want to forget about. No one wants to get cold feet on their wedding day. 😉

2. Plan ahead in case of Road Closures
Roads can get icy or closed due to snow so you’ll want to make sure your guests have alternate routes available to take. You may also want to look into accommodation close by where they can stay a night or two ahead of time so they aren’t driving up to your wedding the day of on snow laden roads.
3. Be Flexible
Having a Winter wedding can mean that the weather may be more unpredictable. Even if you are planning for snow, it’s best to be flexible and allow for extra time in case there are delays. If your wedding is taking place around the holidays, this becomes especially true. There may be more traffic than normal, so while we will do our best to be prepared, also remember that being flexible is the key to having a relaxed wedding day.

4. Don’t Wait to Send out Save the Dates
The Winter months can be packed with holidays and festivities so you’ll want to make sure you’re sending out your save the dates far enough in advance that your guests can set that day aside to celebrate with you and your partner.
5. Share Some Hot Drinks or Cocktails Together
Now that you have your outfits all picked out, it’s time to think about ways to keep warm from the inside. Having hot drinks or cocktails to share not only makes for cute photos but is also a great way to keep yourself warm.
If you’re planning on having a reception dinner, you may also want to consider warm, seasonal foods like soups or other hot dishes. Just think how good that is going to look after coming in from the cold outdoors after your photos.
