G+M drove all the way from Eastern Washington and were looking for the perfect location that had Fall leaves and water features. After sending them over some ideas they fell in love with this location and had a Fall Engagement Session at Moulton Falls.
A PNW Love Story
They met in undergrad and immediately hit it off right off the bat. They wanted a moody, romantic theme for their engagement session near a cliff, and will be celebrating their wedding later this year on G’s grandparents’ property in Washington state.
M proposed to G at Cannon Beach- they both grew up visiting the area and it became M’s favorite spot. M also asked G to be his girlfriend there, so it truly held a special place in their hearts.
Having had a beautiful coastal proposal at Cannon Beach they wanted a different vibe for their engagement session, and wanted to capture the beautiful Fall forest vibes for their session.
Moulton Falls
Moulton Falls has so many beautiful spots for photos, we stopped along the bridge and admired the creek down below, and of course had to get some shots with the bridge in the background, and wandered the trails a bit and found the perfect spot to sit down and admire the Fall leaves.
Permits/Parking
No permits are needed to shoot here, but parking is very limited right next to the trailhead. Luckily there is larger overflow parking further up the road, and you can take a beautiful forested trail down to get to the bridge and creek. No parking pass needed but it can get busy on weekdays! Restrooms are located at the small parking lot near the first bend of the trail.
Accessibility
The first half mile of the trail is the most accessible, but visitors using wheelchairs, strollers, or motorized equipment may need all terrain wheels. There are varying trail surfaces of paved asphalt, gravel, and the bridge itself is wooden with railings, about 4 feet wide.
Pet-Friendly
Pets are allowed but must be kept on leash at all times.
Fall Engagement Session Outfit Inspo
Ahead of a couples session I always send over my Outfit Guide blog post outlining some ideas and inspiration for your session so that your outfits create a harmonious blend with the nature around you and don’t distract from the emotion of the moment.
I love how G’s dark purple dress stood out in the best way without detracting from the environment. The rich jewel tone of her dress was the perfect pop of color amidst the greens and oranges of the Fall forest, and M opted for a classic button up and neutral pants.
When planning your outfits keep in mind the outfit guide is very much a suggestion and there are no hard and fast rules, just tips and tricks of what will blend the most harmoniously and also having you feeling comfortable and confident for your session!
Of course it can be very fun to look at the color palette of the location you’re heading to; (like soft beige and deep blues for the ocean vs. dark greens and browns for the forest) and create an outfit around that location that either takes colors from the background into account in your outfit, or to look for complimentary colors that will help you stand out against the background.
